Holiday pay

Holiday pay refers to the amount of compensation that a company may offer to its employees for working on a mandated holiday day. The specific amount offered can vary with ‘time and a half’ being common in both the U.S. and the U.K., and may or may not be offered in addition to other bonuses.

Most countries will mandate that companies must either ensure that their employees do not work during a national or local holiday, or that they will be compensated appropriately. A notable exception to this case is the U.S., despite the country holding a number of federal holidays.
