What ChatGPT can do with PeopleForce
PeopleForce runs its own MCP server — the open standard ChatGPT uses to reach other systems. Once connected, ChatGPT can look up, as you:
Who is away on a given day, public holidays included
How much leave someone has left, by leave type
Who works where and who reports to whom, including the custom fields your role can see
Every answer comes from live PeopleForce data, looked up under your own PeopleForce account. In this release ChatGPT reads and answers; it doesn't submit, approve or change anything.
Setup
Before you start
Three things need to be in place. The first is a one-off job for an administrator.

Connect PeopleForce in ChatGPT
Custom MCP apps are set up and used in ChatGPT on the web. In a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace where an admin has already published PeopleForce, skip to step 3. OpenAI is still reshaping this part of ChatGPT, so a label on your screen may read slightly differently from the one here.

An admin sets PeopleForce up for the workspace
A workspace admin first allows developer mode under Workspace settings → Permissions & roles, then creates the PeopleForce app under Workspace settings → Apps and publishes it from Drafts. Members don't need developer mode: they find PeopleForce in their apps, click Connect and sign in with their own PeopleForce account, so each person's lookups run under their own PeopleForce account. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also choose which groups get the app.

What ChatGPT reads, and what stays with you
Every request runs as the person who asked. ChatGPT reads four things, on demand, when you ask: the people directory, absences, leave balances and the names of your company's fields. It can't read your knowledge base or change anything in PeopleForce.

If something doesn't work
Most problems come down to the administrator's switch, the address or the account you signed in with.

Custom MCP apps are available in ChatGPT on the web for Business, Enterprise and Edu, and in developer mode for Pro, where apps can read but not write — which is all PeopleForce needs. OpenAI updates this list often, and its developer mode article has the current one.
Does it work in the ChatGPT mobile app?
Not yet. OpenAI supports custom MCP apps in ChatGPT on the web only.
Do I need an API key?
No. You connect by signing in to PeopleForce and approving the connection, the same way you would authorise any application. Connecting this way creates no secret to paste or forward.
Can ChatGPT change anything in PeopleForce?
Not in this release. ChatGPT reads and answers; requests, approvals and edits stay in PeopleForce, where they are recorded against a person. We keep widening what an assistant can do over MCP.
Can ChatGPT see salaries?
Only if you can. A salary comes back only when your role lets you see that person's compensation in PeopleForce — the same permission as everywhere else in the product. If it is hidden from you, ChatGPT cannot retrieve it, not even inside a total.
Is PeopleForce data used to train AI models?
PeopleForce doesn't use your data to train any model. On OpenAI's side, Business, Enterprise and Edu data isn't used for training by default. On Free, Plus, Go and Pro, OpenAI may use information from apps for training while Improve the model for everyone is on; you can switch it off under Settings → Data controls.
